Nancy Hungerford Obituary

HUNGERFORD, Ms. Nancy, passed away at home on May 24, 2021, surrounded by family and love. Born on April 16, 1946 to Molly and Arthur Hungerford, she was a consummate Richmonder. She attended St. Bridget's, Collegiate and the Gunston School. She married Sidney James in 1966 and had two sons, Algernon and William. After divorcing, she was a pioneering single mother, the first female car salesperson in Richmond, and then joined the Federal Reserve Bank, where she met her second husband, John Scott. They married in 1973 and had her third son, Keith. Nancy later embarked on a prolific career in real estate, where she won more admiration, personal connections and awards than can be listed here. Her business savvy was eclipsed only by her ability to truly connect and relate with everyone she met. Nancy had a lifelong passion for art and interior design, which manifested itself in every home she lived in. She was also exhilarated by travel, including a journey to Germany with her mother, Molly; Italy with her son, AJ; Charleston, S.C. with her son, Will; a year in Napa Valley with her son, Keith; and most importantly, summer vacations at the Hungerford home on Little Bear Island in Canada's Georgian Bay. She is survived by sisters, Frances Delaney, Melissa Harrison, Molly Solomson and Rebecca Arute; brothers, Arthur Hungerford and Bill Hungerford; sons, AJ James, Keith Scott and William James; and grandchildren, Hudson Scott, Mary Catherine James, Sidney James, Veronica Scott and William James. Her family mourns her premature passing, but celebrates a life lived in vibrant color and to the fullest.
