Parker Dillard Obituary

DILLARD, Parker Alan, Park was born joyfully on October 2, 1964. He was sadly taken from us unexpectedly on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the age of 59. He is survived by his wife Stephanie Lacy Dillard; sons Noah and Perry Lacy, and his daughter Virginia; parents Beverly and Parker O., brothers Benjamin, Paul (Cheryl), and Russell (Missy); in-laws John and Bea Keffer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Park was a high energy person, and very athletic. From a young age he played little league football at Kanawha Recreational Association and was a stellar member of their swim team. He spent many years at Tuckahoe Little League, where he played for the star-studded Big League Tigers, coached by his dad and Uncle Red Murray. He was a proud 1983 Douglas Freeman High School graduate, where he lettered and excelled in football, baseball, and wrestling. Park attended Elon College, playing on the football team, and transferred to VCU, where he graduated in 1989. He started his career with then Financial Group of Virginia, now Mass Mutual, where for 34 years he built lasting relationships and took care of his client's needs. Any given day, you would find Park and Steph on the Federal Club golf course or sideline supporting Noah, Perry, and Virginia's sports activities. Park loved to work in the yard, tinker in his shed, cheer on the Redskins and spend evenings talking around a fire. He would always lend a helping hand, the heavier the load, the better he liked it. He shared many wonderful vacations at the Homestead and the beach with his family, making memories we will treasure forever. He attended Mount Vernon Baptist church and played on the church softball team. His kindness and caring ways allowed him to make connections that made everyone he met feel special. To have met Parker was to love him as is shown by the many who miss him - friends, clients, neighbors, and his loving family. We love and miss you, Park.

I WAS PRIVILIGED TO HAVE HAD PARKER IN MY/OUR LIFE FOR 14 YEARS. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE HAD 3 BROTHERS IN OUR FAMILY AND I LOVED THEM BUT PARKER WAS MORE THAN A RELATIVE, HE WAS MUCH MORE. A FRIEND THAT WAS SO MUCH MORE THAN A FRIEND AND SON-IN-LAW, HIS CONCERN FOR THE NEEDS OF OTHERS, WAS GENUINE AND UPLIFTING. THERE WAS ONLY ONE PARKER DILLARD IN MY MANY YEARS, BUT THANK GOD HE LEFT US WITH A BEAUTIFUL GRAND DAUGHTER WHO HAS INHERITED MANY OF HIS COMPETITIVE AND CARING GENES THAT WILL, IN TIME, REFLECT WHAT MADE PARKER SO SPECIAL TO SO MANY.

I am so sorry to hear about Parker, and I am sorry that I missed the services. I was out of town. Many prayers to the family. I have known Parker for many years, and I have fond memories of him from the Richmond Corporate Games. I used to be the ED of the Innsbrook Foundation, and Parker was so competitive. He was also so fit, and a funny story to share was he, Lang Meem and Tom O'Grady would all take their shirts off when they were competing at the games, and we used to call them the "Naked Men" of the Richmond Corporate Games. We all got a kick out of him each year, and I must say the ladies all liked it when he took his shirt off. Parker will be missed so many ways. I wanted to share this fun memory, and I think he would be happy I did. The last time I saw him was at the Homestead last year with Virginia. He was in the water park with her, and yes, he still looked pretty good shirtless. Many prayers to his lovely family.

I was so sorry to hear of Parker's passing. His smile was infectious and he always had a big "Hello" for all. He will be missed by all but mostly his family. I extend my deepest sympathy.

So sorry to hear about Parker . He wrote my first life insurance policy over 30 years ago. I had been denied coverage but Parker worked hard and got a policy issued for me. I went on to a career in insurance myself, but I will never forget Parker. He was a kind person and I always enjoyed talking to him. He stayed in touch years after I went into insurance to check on me and my career. He will be missed. He was a class act .

I remember meeting Parker a couple decades ago. Richmond is a big small town. We have lots of mutual friends being I went to Tucker and he went to Freeman. I met him again at Mass Mutual about 4 years ago. He was the same sweet, kind hearted person I remember. My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I don't share the Dillard name, but back when I was seven years old, I attended school with Parker and we were like brothers. That continued thru schools except for a few changes of home address requiring a new school. We hooked back up at Douglas Freeman where we were teammates on the baseball team.
And then onto RMC as roommates and more baseball for some time. He was a talented player, a great teammate and above all, my best friend. Previous to us meeting, his parents and my parents were already friends. Any member of the Dillard family is special to me. I'm typing this while the tears run down my face. My heart goes out to the entire family.
