Patsy Evans Obituary

EVANS, Patsy Berry, 86, of Highland Springs, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 29, 2024. Born April 4, 1937 to Charles Edward and Edna Southall Berry, she is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Earl and Edward; her devoted, loving husband of 62 years, William O. "Billy" Evans, Jr.; son-in-law, William E. "Butch" Gates, Jr. She is survived by her loving family; son, Steve (Kelly); daughter, Linda Ambrose (Brad); grandsons, Steven Evans (Mandy), Kendall Gates (Jennifer), Cory Evans (Kim), Aaron Evans (Cameron), and Austin Evans; great grandsons, Gavin Evans, and Gibson Evans; great granddaughters, Sydnie Evans, Penelope Gormus-Evans, Lillian "Lily" Gates, Avery Evans; step-grandchildren, Megan, Courtney, and Bradford Ambrose; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Patsy grew up in rural Hanover County and was a graduate of Battlefield Park High School. As a young woman, she worked at C. & P. Telephone Company. Afterwards, Patsy stayed at home in Highland Springs to raise her children. She later returned to work, serving children as a Henrico County elementary school secretary at Varina Annex for 20 years and retired from Henrico County in 2002 after six years as a school bus aide.

Patsy was a long-time member of Fairmount Christian Church, serving faithfully with her husband during her entire married life. Her church legacy was loving and rocking babies weekly in the church nursery for over 40 years. It was there where she developed a deep bond and friendship with her dear friends Marjorie Tucker and Judy Williams. She also enjoyed encouraging others and faithfully sent cards and notes of encouragement to anyone who needed to feel her love. She had an extra special place in her heart and faithfully wrote to and encouraged Morgan Noone and great niece, Alicen Brown. Known as Nannie, Nan and NannieNan, she cherished spending time with her grandsons and great-grandchildren and could always be heard humming or singing "Jesus Loves Me" whenever children were around.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon, with services beginning at 12 noon, on Tuesday, February 6 at Fairmount Christian Church with interment to follow in Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Fairmount Christian Church Building Fund, PO Box 788, Mechanicsville, VA 23111.
