Peter Callan Obituary

Peter Neil Callan, known to all as Neil, passed away on September 14, 2025, after a decade-long journey with cancer. Born the eldest of four, Neil carried wisdom and wit into every corner of his life.

Diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2015, Neil faced surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy with resilience and humor. In the end, complications from treatment brought his earthly story to a close at age 71.

Neil earned a BA in English and an MBA, but his education never stopped. His leisure activities included translating French literature, researching Catholic theology, and reading about human evolution.

He loved music in every form: studying classical guitar, performing Elvis Costello for his family, debating The Beatles with snob-level passion, and delighting in everything from Gregorian chants to Weezer. If there was live music to be found, Neil was there.

Neil held many jobs, but his life's greatest work was his family. His high school sweetheart and wife of 47 years, Sally, stood by his side through every triumph and trial. Together they raised two children, Alex and Maggie, and he cherished the laughter of his granddaughter, Louise. Neil also treasured the lifelong bond with his siblings, Daniel, Mary, and Jeffrey, as well as the joy brought by his nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Jerry, Neil leaves behind a family who adored him, a community who will miss his humor and compassion, and a soundtrack of music, love, and curiosity that will echo through their lives.

A private memorial will follow at a later date.
