Peter Davis Obituary

DAVIS, Peter Nils, Peter Nils Davis died peacefully on August 11, 2023. He is survived by Beth, his best friend and wife of 45 years, together with their daughters, Sarah and Eliza, and their adoring granddaughter, Adelaide. He is also survived by his brother, Sam, sister, Ross, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Davis.

Peter was born in 1947 and grew up in Clarksville, VA. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was a four-year letterman as a wide receiver on the football team, and later coached freshman football. He also played basketball during his first year at Carolina. After graduating with a degree in history, he spent his career in sales. Before moving to Greensboro earlier this summer, Peter and Beth raised their family in Bon Air, their home for nearly 40 years.

Peter was blessed with many intellectual and physical gifts and perhaps most blessed with a kind and gentle nature, readily apparent in his loving devotion to his family and raising his girls. He lived life with a sense of wonder and adventure and celebrated others' wins as he would his own. He had a lifelong love of sports, particularly women's and collegiate sports, and was a committed and active member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. While he never lost a certain impish twinkle, he did not seek attention. Rather, he quietly and steadfastly did the right thing, the helpful thing. His selflessness and generosity touched more lives than we will ever know. He is and will forever be missed.

A memorial service will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Bon Air (2040 McRae Rd, Bon Air, VA 23235) on Friday, August 25 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Michael's Church.

My favorite boomer, as a child he made me feel special in way only an uncle can. The best memories are what make life, and Peter is a part of all our lives.

Sorry for your loss Beth. Peter's memory with me has been with me since
1968. I saw him catch a touchdown against Florida St. 10,000 miles away
from Clarksville. I played football with him at Bluestone. He will be missed
to all who knew him.

I am so sorry for your loss Beth. I would like to share a memory of Peter I
have carried with me since 1968. I was an infantryman in Vietnam and my
company was on stand down for three days. A few of my brothers and I went to an outdoor theater to drink beer and watch a movie. They showed sport reels before the movie. I saw Peter catch a touchdown against Fla St.
The guys didn' believe I went to high school with him.

Peter was one of my freshman coaches at UNC. He was a great coach but more importantly he was cheerful and encouraging which is exactly what I needed. I know he touched the lives of all at college in a wonderful way
Thanks for the time together

I was fortunate to be a member of the Freshman Football team when Peter was coach. He was a wonderful coach and had an uplifting personality which was so appreciated by me during a difficult transition from a small community to a huge campus where I got lost going to class (yes I did go to class)
