Phillip Wells Obituary

WELLS, Phillip "Phil" Warren, 81, went home to be with his personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 21, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley S. Wells; brother, Elywn Wells; sister, Grace W. Thomas; step-grandson, Tristan R. Phillips; Mother, Janey M. Wells-Mallory; and father, Elwyn R. Wells. Phil was a ticket agent for Greyhound from 1964-1979 until his retirement. He was a member of Truth Baptist Church. Phil served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1966 during the Vietnam era where he was decorated for being an expert rifleman and for good conduct. He was a volunteer fireman in Ashland from 1968-1971 and a volunteer E.M.T. from 1971-1987. Additionally, he was a little league baseball coach, Boy Scouts of America Master in Ashland, Troop 700, a school bus driver for Hanover for 10 years, and a DAV Lifetime member. He was also president of H.A.R.C. for six years and a member of the American Legion Post 90. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, antiques, auctions, guns, coin collecting, and native American memorabilia. He loved Nascar and the Wampanoag Indian nation. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Helen J. Wells; sons, Michael W. Wells (Natalie), Alan C. Wells (Angela), and Ronald E. Wells; stepdaughter, Anastasia P. Webber; stepson, Raymond M. Phillips II; brothers, Sidney R. Wells (Gemo), William F. Malloy, III, and Jan Mallory (Lucy); three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He also leaves behind his fur-babies, April, Ariel, and Gunnie.

A visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005 on Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home with burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16) "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13) In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Wounded Warriors Project at P. O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66678.
