Richard Lewis Obituary

LEWIS, Richard G., Sr., "Rick," 71, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away January 17, 2023, surrounded by family. He was predeceased by his father, Clarence "Tom" Lewis; and mother, Lillian Lewis.

Rick was born on June 16, 1951. A true Richmond native, he graduated from Tucker High School in 1969 and Virginia Commonwealth University in 1973. He especially enjoyed watching his beloved Washington football team take to the field as well as Rams basketball. Aside from being an avid sports fan, he is well remembered for his ability to befriend anyone, his spirit of adventure, his endless enthusiasm and a sense of humor that years of ongoing health struggles could not dampen. Often mistaken for Santa Claus by curious children, his friends were many and his impact immeasurable. A father of absolute devotion and an ever-supportive husband, his expansive affection for those dear to him was expressed in deeds as well as words. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Rick is survived by his wife, Carolyn Corker Lewis; his children, Sara Lewis Vorlop and Richard Gene Lewis Jr.; as well as his grandchildren, Clara Elizabeth and Charles William Vorlop. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Saturday, January 21 from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Schoolhouse on Hawthorne at 3421 Hawthorne Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23222.

I only met Rick recently, but even in my short visit with him and Corkey, the description here of the wonderful person he was, ver accurately matches the impression he had on me. I feel blessed to have had the chance to meet him. May the many fond memories of him eventually bring his loved ones peace.

Rick Lewis and I worked together in Real Estate with Long and Foster. He was a good, professional Realtor, but more importantly, a good friend and a strong, devoted Christian. Even when he had a life altering experience and was a miracle, his faith never wavered and he was an inspiration to many, especially me. Thank You Lord for putting Rick in my life and for him "setting the bar high" for me to follow. May he RIP until we meet again. In Your Son´s name we pray, Amen.
Sending and condolences to Corky and his extended family!!Tom Holloway

I´m so very sorry to hear of Rick´s passing. He was my 1st cousin on his Mother´s side. But because we lived so far apart, we haven´t seen each other in quite a long time. I remember his good sense of humor when, as children, we all spent the night in their station wagon out in our yard! Please accept my deepest condolences and my thoughts & prayers.
