Richard Moncure Obituary

Richard Cassius Lee Moncure V, of Chester, died Monday, October 4, 2004 in Chippenham Medical Center, Richmond. A native of Stafford County, he was the son of the late Richard C.L. Moncure the IV and Warrie Sneed Moncure. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard C.L. VI; three sisters, Nannie Waller M. Del Monaco, Mildred M. Pickett Lloyd and Ella Fontaine M. Porter. Mr. Moncure was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Chester. He was a retired salesman for Goldburg Co., a wholesale distributor for RCA. He served in the National Guard then transferred to the U.S. Navy serving in WWII. He was a member of Blue Lodge No. 94 and also Scottish Rite and ACCA Temple. Mr. Moncure is survived by his wife, Elizabeth H. Moncure; daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia M. and Frank E. Lester Jr. of Richmond, Va., Kathryn M. and Norman R. Chenault of Fredericksburg, Va.; two brothers and their wives, Henry B. and Mildred H. Moncure of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and James Gordon and Betty Jean Moncure of Powhatan, Va.; sisters, Louise M. Mason of Owens, Va. and Caroline M. Woodard of Stafford, Va.; along with numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 8, 2004 at St.John's Episcopal Church, 12201 Richmond Street, Chester, 23831, with the Reverend Raymond Dale Custer officiant, and the Reverend Robert H. Armstrong, preacher. Inurnment to follow, 2:30 p.m. at the Aquia Episcopal Church Cemetery in Stafford, Va. A reception will be held in the church parish hall after the burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, P.O. Box 3659, Glen Allen, Va. 23058-6359.

Penny and I learned of Dick's passing today. We were saddened to hear about it. We are sorry we missed the funeral.



We lived next door to Dick for 12 years. He knew everyone in the neighborhood and in the village of Chester, and everyone knew him. I will miss him and his humor.
