Robert Lockridge Obituary

LOCKRIDGE, Mr. Robert "Rob", of Leesburg, Va., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 22, 2021. Rob is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Josh, his wife, Mandie and their daughter, Evey Rose Lockridge; and his sister, Susan Kulig of Marathon, Fla. Rob was born on July 29, 1945 in Detroit, Mich., the son of Robert and Florence Lockridge. The family moved to Norfolk, Va., where Rob grew up and graduated from Granby High School and Old Dominion College. In 1969, he and Barbara were wed and moved to Richmond, Va. After a tour in the Air Force, they returned to Richmond and Rob began a 30-year career as a manager in the Governor's Budget Office. Upon retiring from state government, Rob accepted the position of Chief Legislative Liaison for the University of Virginia, where he served for 10 years and became an avid UVA Basketball fan! Rob and Barbara were members of St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Richmond, where Rob served the Lord in numerous capacities. In fall of 2017, Rob and Barbara moved to Leesburg, Va. to be close to Josh and his family and became members of St. Anne's Episcopal Church. Rob was a devoted and loving husband and father and a kind, patient and gracious gentleman, always ready and willing to "be there" for others. He had a quick wit and was known for enjoying a good practical joke. In addition to time with family and friends, Rob enjoyed sailing, hiking, playing bridge and attending UVA basketball games. Rob will be greatly missed; his memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him, most especially, his family. Services will be held at a later date. The family requests that those who wish to honor Rob's life make donations to CARE, 151 Ellis St. NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30303.

Barbara, I read in the paper about Rob's death. I have not seen you in years, and I have wondered if you and Rob were still in Ashland. We connected when you and I taught together at Brookland Middle School. We visited with you and Rob at our home when the two of you were building your new house in Ashland. I have very fond memories of you and Rob, and am sorry to hear this sad news. My thoughts are with you and your son. Elaine Scroggs

I was very sorry to hear of Rob's passing. Rob and I started in the State Budget Office about the same time. He was such a gentlemen and great person to know and work with. We had many hours of work together learning the ways of Virginia and the unique approach of the Virginia Budget office.
My sincere sympathy and best wishes to Barb and the family.

Rob was a great friend to both of us. We´ll always remember his kindness, sense of humor, and integrity. A true gentleman, a wonderful story-teller, and a great public servant! Our condolences to Barbara and Josh at this difficult time.

I have missed Rob and Barbara ever since they left Richmond. Between our work together for the state and our time together at St Martins, Rob was a friend and colleague for many many years. I will always treasure the things he taught me and the smiles we shared. My love and hugs to Barbara and the family. You continue to be in our prayers.
