Robert Moore Obituary

MOORE, Robert Bryant Jr., joined his parents, Robert B. Moore and Mable Marie Walton Ruckart; his stepfather, Robert T. Ruckart; and his youngest brother, Kevin D. Moore, in eternal rest on April 24, 2023. He is survived by his sister, Katherine W. Lawson (Russell) of Henrico; and brother, Jonathan L. Moore (Yai) of Nagoya, Japan. Born February 3, 1951, in Richmond at St. Luke's Hospital, he spent the whole of his life in the city. He graduated from George Wythe High School (class of '69), served honorably in the Air Force and then took up the masonry and brick laying trade as his work. He believed in and preached repeatedly on the values of hard work and perseverance and he knew as much about the physics of bricks and mortar as any engineer. He was a tinkerer who enjoyed making a broken thing useful again. He never met a stranger but did not kindly suffer fools. He was fiercely independent and stubbornly self-reliant, famously kind to animals and loyal to his friends, who were numerous. He will be sorely missed by those friends, his family and his niece, (Sarah) and nephews, (Ben, Anthony and Andrew). If he had a regret, it might have been that he never got his knee replacements so that he could walk his beloved Buttermilk Trail again. Bryant requested no service be held. Donations in his memory may be made to the Southside SPCA in Meherrin, Va. or the charity of your choice benefiting animals.

I was sorry to hear about Roberts passing. We were good friends when I lived in Richmond. He shared my love for animals, especially dogs. We cried together when his dogs passed, and when my beloved dog passed. He is romping with his dogs now, and his knees are perfectly healthy. Rest in peace, Robert. See you when I get there. I have known Bryant 50 plus years,we met in the struggle of life and became friends, we worked together in his masonry company and did various projects together.
Bryant was a kind gentle soul, willing to help and a faithful friend, may God grant him favor according to his tender mercy.

I met Bryant when he helped me try to catch Mia, a dog I had recently adopted from RAL who managed to escape right after we brought her home (we did eventually catch her.) Thereafter, whenever I saw him out in the neighborhood, we had lovely conversations about our mutual affection for dogs. I will miss those sweet moments. So sorry for your loss.

Bryant was a good friend. When a neighbor was struck ill, and I helped him out, but could no longer do so every day due to work obligations, Bryant, newly 'retired', and with JUST ONE PHONE CALL to ask for help, turned into so much more.
Bryant came over to Billy´s every morning to prepare and have breakfast with Billy, installed a fire pit and patio (Billy´s last wish was to make the house 'perfect' for his wife) and took him to his chemo treatments and enjoyed many a milkshake at Chic -Fil-A [as that was all Billy could stomach after treatment]. I cared a great deal about both of these gentlemen, and I miss them both .
I will be forever indebted to Bryant for making that care transition so seamless with his kindness. That, coupled with our mutual love for dogs, make him one of the dearest neighbors in my 31+ years in this neighborhood. There must be a whole pack of dogs waiting to greet him !! Rest Well, my dear Friend.

We all grew up within a block of each other. We all went to school together and spent my days at little sandy on the James River. We will miss Brian and he will be in our memories for ever.

I was shocked when I heard about Brian.I am so sorry to hear about Brian. He was a good friend since the 60's. He would come over my house and we would set on the deck and talk for hours. He will be missed. Prayers to the family.

I knew Bryant in high school before we could drive. Spent time roaming Westover Hills. He was a big kind-hearted guy.

We were making some renovations to our home and closing an exterior window in our brick home. Bryant was referred to us. New brick could not be found to match exactly, so we went around town in his truck to brick dumps and found old matching bricks. Bryant even colored the mortar to match. You cannot tell the fill-in wall from the original. Bryant was a perfectionist at his trade. We became good friends and I appreciated his intelligence. We had many challenging conversations on a great variety of topics. Hw was a loyal and generous friend that will be missed.

I met Bryant on one of my many morning asphalt hikes. I grew to like Bryant immensely and we had many nice conversations. I will miss him in this life and am so glad to have known him.
