Anthony Wendell Tarry, Sr., also known to many as A.T. or Dell, age 59, suddenly passed away in
Lawton, Oklahoma on January 19, 2026. He was the son of the late George (Sunny) Tarry, Jr. and Nannie (Jean) Terry. He was born on June 9, 1966, and raised in
Richmond, Virginia.
Anthony attended Highland Springs High School in Highland Springs, Virginia, where he proudly played football and graduated in 1985. After high school, he worked at Ford Automotive Rebuilders before joining the military.
In 1989, Anthony joined the United States Army, where he proudly served for 23 years. During his military career, he completed two tours in Germany, two tours in Korea, and two tours in Iraq. During his military tenure, Anthony formed lifelong bonds with dedicated friends who served alongside him, including Travis Armstrong and Dwight "Jeff" Jefferson of Oklahoma. In 1994, Anthony met and married LaShonda Austin.
After retiring from the Army, Anthony continued his service as an instructor at Fort Sill in Oklahoma.
Anthony enjoyed playing dominoes, watching Alabama football, and cooking. He enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle. He was passionate about his family and close friends, and he truly never met a stranger.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Lashonda Tarry, of
Lawton, Oklahoma; his children, Anthony Tarry, Jr., Nadia Tarry, Nathan Tarry; beloved sons, Dewayne Austin, Damon Austin, and Delvontae' Austin (Darcy); beloved daughters, Destiny Brown (Roger), and Danielle Westfield (Deon) and ten grandchildren. Anthony is also survived by his brother, George (Pook) Tarry III; sister, Gwendolyn (Gwen) Tarry; devoted niece, Nya Tarry; devoted aunt, Myrtice Warren (Elmore); aunt, Geraldine Hawkins; cousins, Ronald (Ron) Tarry (wife Terry) and Lisa Tarry-Carter, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his special cousin, Christopher (Chris) Tarry; special aunt, Mary L. Tarry; a host of uncles and aunts.
Viewing will be on January 30, 2026, at Ritter Gray Funeral Home, 632 SW "C" Ave.,
Lawton, Oklahoma 73501, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial service will be held on February 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel. This will be followed by a procession to Fort Sill Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma.
The repast will be held at the VFW Post 1193, 926 SW 2nd Street in
Lawton, Oklahoma, at 3:00 p.m.
