James Moore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duyck & VanDeHey Funeral Home - Forest Grove on Jan. 26, 2026.
James Francis Moore, 83, a resident of the Cornelius community passed away on January 21, 2026 at his home.

James was born in Forest Grove, OR on March 10, 1942. He was the middle of seven children born to James and Frances (Murphy) Moore. James was raised in Roy, OR. and graduated from Jesuit high school with the class of 1960.

Immediately after high school, James enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country for four years. During leave, James was home where he attended a local dance and reconnected with his grade school classmate, Ellen Vandehey. James and Ellen were united in marriage on January 15, 1966 and made their first home together in Cornelius where they started their family. They had four daughters, Angelia, Sandra, Maria and Barbara.

James openly shared his Faith with all, even the delivery person at the front door, the Jehovah's Witnesses, where he would witness to them about The Fathers love and redeeming grace, The mail person, the stock boy at the grocery store. Anyone who had ears to hear. He enjoyed fresh water fishing, wood working- where he created countless bowls that he loved to gift to family and friends. He was quite the cook, (and magician) turning one meal in particular (liver) into a masterpiece. He enjoyed photography and was an avid member of the American Legion Post 90. James was a proud Navy Veteran and spent many hours attending events and speaking at local high schools and communities to future service members. James could strike up a conversation with literally anyone.

He is preceded in passing by his parents, James and Frances, his daughter, Maria, and four siblings; Theresa Juenemann, Robert Moore, Charles Moore, and Rosemary Douglass.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ellen, his daughters and their spouses; Angelia and Larry Keyes of Cornelius, Sandra and Russell Gibson of North Plains, Barbara and Chris Blunck of Carson, WA, Also survived by his remaining siblings and their spouses; his brother John and Bonnie Moore of Forest Grove, Margaret and Donavan Shaw of Enterprise, His eleven grandchildren; Lawrence, Alyssa, Shelby, BreEllen, Riley, Luke, Emily, Tabitha, Connor, Abigail, and Brody. Nine great grandchildren; Danica, Trixxi, Emma, Isabella, Daxter, Leo, Aurora, Alice, and Grayson and many nieces and nephews.
