Ruby, you lived the Fisk University motto,"Her sons and daughters are ever on the altar", with honor and distinction. You have made us all proud; and we of '56 celebrate your life.

Ruby was a former board member of the Southern Education Foundation,

Inc. and most recently an Advisory Committe member of the Equal Opportunity in Post Secondary Desegregation Project. She will be greatly missed professionally and personally.

We were blessed to be touched by Ruby's remarkable life. She will be sorely missed by us. Ruby was both a friend and a mentor.

I (Marilyn) was often her partner for golf tournaments (we won our share). When I made a really nice shot she would say "you go girl". She was always encouraging her fellow golfers. So, we would like to imagine her somewhere up there playing on the prettiest golf course you have ever seen, looking good (in her black patent leather golf shoes) and playing well. And we say to her, "you go girl, now you can really soar."

And God bless all who were touched by her wonderful life.

A person's legacy begins with their relationships with the loved ones that are left behind. I have been blessed that Ruby's husband, "Doc," has been my friend for the past six years. During that time, I witnessed a man who not only was deeply in love with his wife, but who was extremely proud of her amazing accomplishments. Clearly, Ruby's legacy will continue to touch people's lives for generations to come. I pray that God's awesome love will comfort "Doc" and Ruby's family and friends during this difficult time.

Sincerest condolences to the family and friends of our Fisk ('56) classmate, Ruby Grant Martin. My prayers, now, are for the strength and comfort of those near and dear to Ruby. She was a warm and generous woman, who accomplished so much and touched the lives of so many during her lifetime. She will live long in the memories of all of us. Keep the faith!

On behalf of her devoted Fisk

classmates, I would like to extend

sincere and sorrowful condolences

to the extended family of our

beloved Ruby Grant Martin on her

passing. Let it be a consolation

that she lived such a luminous

life of service and commitment

to the cause of social justice

especially for the dispossessed

in this country and abroad. On a

personal and less solemn note, I

recall when Ruby and I crossed over

the "burning sands" on the same

evening at Fisk - she to Alpha

Kappa Alpha sorority and I to

Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, and how

joyful we were, but what was most

important is that in everything we

did - we Fiskites - the spirit of

the "Fisk family" animated us and

lit up our lives and aspirations.

Ruby deserves her rest and passage

to a better world. To paraphrase

Shakespeare: "Goodnight, sweet

Princess, May flights of Angels

take thee to thy rest!"
