She also is survived by numerous cousins in both her father's and mother's families as well as the extended family of her late husband.
Ruby led a remarkable life that began right before the Great Depression, a period that shaped her life of faith and hard work on Glennacres Farm in Palmyra, where her parents also ran a cannery and a hatchery.
Her appreciation for beauty was reflected in her lovely home, flowers and award-winning flower arrangements, and sewing projects. As an accomplished cook, she applied the same principle of "presentation is a big part of it" to her many recipes.
Throughout her long life, she made friends of all ages, participated in a number of social circles and clubs, and hosted numerous gatherings. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a Bible study group. She also enjoyed sports, especially with a keen interest in UVa Women's Basketball (where she held season tickets for more than 25 years).
In addition, she found time to pursue two careers, first, at Jefferson National Bank and then, after retiring, at the Monticello Ticket Office until a second retirement.
She lived most of her life on the family farm where she enjoyed growing a wide variety of vegetables, flowers, and shrubs and pursued many hobbies such as painting, making stuffed bears, and crafting quilts for friends and family.
She married Frank, her high school sweetheart, when they were both teens, and they spent 62 years together in a blessed and romantic marriage. After a short time of living and working in other cities, they returned to Fluvanna and raised their three children. Ruby faithfully supported her husband's dual callings as an employee at the C&O/CSX Railroad and as a supply minister, accompanying him to widespread charges and opening their home for many church events, including small weddings.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her Oncologist, Dr. Andrew Romano, and his staff, as well as to her Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Anthony Crimaldi, and his staff, for their dedicated and compassionate care and to Hospice of the Piedmont for invaluable support and comfort during her final days.
Funeral services are under the direction of Sheridan Funeral Home of Kents Store and will be held at Calvary Chapel Fluvanna at 388 Still Waters Ln., (formerly 2772 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy.), Palmyra, Va., on July 19, 2025, at 11 a.m. Rev. Scott David will officiate. A reception will be held in the church directly after the service. She will rest beside her husband at Bethel Baptist Cemetery with a private interment.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers or other contributions, donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont.
