Thomas Russell Childrey

1990 - 2021

CHILDREY, Thomas Russell, 31, did not survive after a tragic car accident on October 15, 2021. Tom graduated Patrick Henry High School in 2008 and then J. Sargeant Reynolds in 2010, as a Diesel Mechanic. He was employed as a STIHL Technician/Mechanic at Smith-Turf Irrigation, Inc. for nearly 10 years. Playing Beethoven music by ear from a young age, Tom was a very talented electric guitarist and pianist. Combining skilled welding techniques and artistic ability, he created metal sculptures from discarded machine parts. Tom was also a pigeon fancier, like Grandfather Childrey. Animal and airplane lover, horticulturalist, target shooter and inter-state traveler, his kindness and keen humor were well-known to all who knew him. Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Childrey, M.D.; grandparents, Roy and Doris Childrey; and grandpa, Richard Casto. Tom is survived by his parents, Roy and Lissa; brother, Jason; sister, Eva; grandma, Marie Casto; uncles, Steve (Zotti) and Rusty (Cynthia) Childrey and Brig. Gen. R. Mark Casto; aunts, Mary (Mike) Lamp, Cathy (Frank) Snodgrass; eight cousins; and beloved and dear Gray Kitty. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 1214 Wilmer Avenue, Richmond, Va. Arrangements provided by Bliley's – Staples Mill.
