Thomas Newman Obituary
September 27, 1944 - February 11, 2025
Thomas Earl Newman was born September 27, 1944, to Thomas Penn Newman Jr. and Eva Armstrong Hudson Newman. He died on February 11, 2025. He graduated from the University of Richmond in 1980 with a Bachelor of Applied Studies Degree. He worked for Philip Morris USA / Altria for 30 years as an assistant foreman and retired as a Group Supervisor at age 53. Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Judy Peele Newman. Before her death, they enjoyed traveling and concerts. He was an avid fan of the University of Richmond football and basketball programs and a general fan of Major League Baseball (MLB). He also enjoyed bowling in his younger years. He loved to sing and was a member of the Joyful Voices Choir at Salisbury Presbyterian Church. His overall love for music led him to purchase over 1,300 CD's that he enjoyed listening to. Reading and the Arts were also among his favorites. Tom leaves to cherish his memory, many good friends in the Richmond area. Devoted to helping him over the past few years were Bill Gerrity (Judy Shuman), Dave Moyer (Carole), Wayne Hamilton, Ray Walsh and Sandra Mason. He also leaves The Brooks family in Utah, The Canada Family in N.C., and The Peele Family in Ariz. and Texas.
A service will be held at Dale Memorial Park Mausoleum (indoors) on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 10 a.m. Burial to follow immediately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the University of Richmond, Student Athlete fund.
