Thomas Spain Obituary
Thomas Clarke Spain Sr.
Thomas Clarke Spain, Sr. 98, of Chesterfield County, passed from this life to Glory on January 27, 2026. Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Joyce C. Spain; children, Debbie Dunn, Mary Kay Madison, Cindy Norville (Greg), Clarke Spain (Renee), Kay Sailsbury (Ray); grandchildren, Joy Moody (Greg), Ashley Wodicka (Jim), Adam Madison (Rebecca), Natalie Milner (Greg), Zachary Sailsbury (Karey), Candace Romig (Mike), Nathan Norville, Gabriel Sailsbury (Stephanie), Jenna Wilson (Preston), Hannah Sailsbury, Mollie Norville. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Spain. Preceding him to Heaven were his parents. Jeff and Lurlene Spain; first wife, Anne Lewis Spain; siblings, Rosalie Sheffield {Irvin), Beulah Harrison, Rev. Sidney Spain; sons-in-law, Wilkie Dunn and Buster Madison. Thomas was a Navy veteran. Returning home from the Navy, he worked a variety of jobs until he found fulfillment in long distance driving. He worked for Mason and Dixon Trucking for 30 years. In his spare time, he faithfully served Ramsey Memorial United Methodist Church. He enjoyed his many years as Property Chairman taking the responsibilities of maintenance of the property seriously and successfully.
He was a top-notch Head Usher. His outgoing, fun personality made everyone feel welcome and comfortable. He was President of his Sunday School class, serving with joyfulness. Tommy organized several golf tournaments for church, groups to play for fun, and loved everything golf. In his retirement years he relished working at Birkdale Golf Course and later Pocoshock Golf Course, doing whatever tasks were needed. The life of golf was always sunny.
He was a wonderful gardener, growing flowers, bushes, fruits, and vegetables. His favorite was growing lovely, lush grass. His yard was carpet green and no one could cut it to suit him. Tommy loved and thought Joyce could do anything, but his favorite was her "best of the east of Mississippi cooking. None could compare"; he bragged to everybody.
Until we meet again in glory, our husband, father, and grandfather's twinkly, "little dickens", personality will be missed by the many friends he checked on, and all the family he prayed for daily.
