Van Lynch Obituary

LYNCH, Van Linden, In Loving Memory of Van Linden Lynch (1957 to 2023).

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Van Linden Lynch, a well-loved father, sibling, and a friend to many. Van left this world at the age of 65, succumbing to cancer after spending his final days being taken care of by his son, Joshua Woods, and then in the peace of hospice care.

Born in 1957, to Robert Lee Lynch and Alice Clarke Lynch, Van grew up in a lively family with three brothers. Their home was full of reading, intellectual discussion, and political debate. Van attended the Richmond Public Schools and graduated from the Open High School, where he made many life-long friends. He lived in Richmond his entire life, most recently with his son, Josh; and favorite cat, Frankie.

Van was always intellectually and spiritually curious. He received bachelor's and nursing degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and had a long career as a nurse and dialysis nurse, working for several hospitals and companies, including most recently for DaVita. Van was known for his kindness and generosity to his friends, and for his love of animals. He also cared deeply about politics and worked tirelessly canvassing for Democratic politicians and progressive causes.

In addition to his remarkable generosity to friends, Van was a devoted father to Josh, who was by his side to the end. In addition to Josh, Van is survived by brothers, Patrick, Michael, and Berkley; as well as nephews, Rozman and Milo; and niece Amy.

His presence will be sorely missed, but his spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. A remembrance with reception will be held in honor of Van Lynch at Bliley's Funeral Home at 3801 Augusta Ave., Richmond, on August 6 from 12 to 2 p.m with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The National Kidney Foundation, supporting patients with kidney disease and embodying Van's spirit of generosity and kindness.
