Vertie Murray Lewis

Vertie Murray Lewis, 94, of Varina, departed this life Thursday, September 18, 2003. She was born to Ann Pack Murray and Morris Murray in Cripple Creek, Va. She spent her adult life in Richmond. She retired from Nolde’s Bakery. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Eugene Lewis, and a granddaughter, Dorothy Lewis Kirwin. She is survived by a daughter, Deloris L. Becker of Redondo Beach, Calif.; and a son, Lester "Pee Wee" Lewis; one daughter-in-law, Miriam M. Lewis. She left behind ten grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson to remember their loving Grandma and Nanny. Many will remember her for her babysitting in Varina and around the East End. Everyone who knew her loved her. Her remains at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Avenue, where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. Memorial donations made be made to the Varina Baptist Church.
