Virginia Bailey Obituary

BAILEY Virginia Blanton Bailey, 62, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, in Williamsburg, Virginia, surrounded by family and friends. Ginger was born to Virginia Elizabeth Waddill and Hugh Lawrence Blanton in Richmond, Virginia, and is survived by her husband of 39 years, Wilson Jefferson Bailey Jr. of Williamsburg, Virginia, whom she met as an undergraduate at the University of Richmond; her daughter, Virginia Catherine Bailey Kohout of Ft. Worth, Texas; her son, Lee Wilson Bailey of New York City; and her sister, Betty Wade Jones of Petersburg, Virginia. While raising her children, Ginger worked tirelessly on behalf of community organizations and charitable endeavors in the many places in which her family lived, including Texas, New Jersey, and Australia. In the mid-1990s her interest in literacy led her to pursue a career in education, and she most recently taught at Clara Byrd Baker Elementary School in Williamsburg. Ginger also enjoyed outdoor activities, especially gardening, sailing and hiking, as well as traveling and learning about other cultures. A celebration of Ginger's life will be held on Monday, September 18, at 4 p.m. at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Rd., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, Virginia, 23188 or The International Dyslexia Association, Chester Building, Suite 382, 8600 LaSalle Rd., Baltimore, Maryland 21286, Attention: Robert Hott.
