Virginia Graham Obituary

Virginia Graham

Graham, Virginia "Mason" Hester died on August 31, 2024, after a well-fought battle with Multiple Sclerosis, and later, Lewy Body Dementia. She was born January 9, 1963, in Richmond, VA, to the late George Patterson Hester and Mary Picton Garnett Payne Hester. She attended St. Catherine's School in Richmond for grade school, Casady School in Oklahoma City, OK, for middle school, before returning to Richmond and graduating from St. Catherine's in 1981. Soon after, Mason attended the University of Georgia, graduating in 1985. She began her professional career in commercial printing which took her to Baltimore, MD, and then back to Richmond. In 1999, she married David Harvey Graham Jr., and David, Mason, and Mary (her daughter) moved to Lynchburg, VA. Mason always had a passion for real estate and embarked on a new career as a residential agent. When the family moved to Charlottesville, VA, in 2002, Mason transitioned to commercial real estate. These jobs introduced her to clients and co-workers whom she cherished. Mason was known for her beautiful smile, warm personality, inquisitive mind, and keen sense of humor, all of which were still present in her final days. Mason was happiest surrounded by family and friends at the beach or at the river, listening to music where her infectious spirit was adored and embraced by those lives she touched. She is survived by her husband, David Harvey Graham, Jr.; her daughters, Mary Wells Elam Cerny (Justin) and Elizabeth Ellis Graham, of Richmond; her sister, Elizabeth Garnett Hester, of Richmond; her brother, George Franklin Hester (Margaret), of Essex County; and many devoted family members and friends that brought much joy and laughter to her world.

A Celebration of Life reception will be held at The Club at Glenmore, 1750 Piper Way, Keswick, VA 22947, on Sunday, September 29th, at 2 p.m. to commemorate Mason's well-lived life. Interment will be private. The family is indebted to Spring Arbor Cottage of Richmond and Bristol Hospice Richmond for their loving care.

Although I was shocked to see Mason´s obituary, her beautiful smile in her picture made me smile. I´m sure she is adding her light to heaven. In your grief journey, may your memories bring you comfort, may knowing she is whole and healthy again bring peace, and may the love and support of family and friends give you strength. Take care of each other. Laugh when you can and cry when needed. Hugs to you all.
