William Glasser Obituary

GLASSER, William "Bill", passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday morning, December 11, 2023. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gwen. He is survived by his children: Marsha Rehkamp (& her husband Tom), Mark Glasser (& his partner Frank McWeeny), Susan Glasser, Scott Glasser (& his wife Marian); his grandchildren: Jennifer Rehkamp (& her partner Brian Thompson), Rachel Kupillas (& her husband Kevin) and Skai Glasser; his great grandchildren: Conrad & Mila Kupillas and Quinn Thompson: and his dear friend, Marcie Gillespie.

Our remembrances of our Dad: From Scott:

Dad started as a young father and husband, always finding new ways to provide for his family. He made difficult decisions and sacrifices to make sure that he could provide a better, and still better, life for his growing family, spending much of his career in increasingly managerial positions at Reynolds Metals Company. While he would not want to admit it, he did this all on the street smarts of a boy who couldn't afford college and just missed the GI Bill.

He showed us all how to be self-sufficient first, and then to be providers.

From Scott & Mark:

Dad was a natural leader. He enjoyed being active in numerous and varied organizations, from golf groups to Knights of Columbus, and Saints and Sinners at St Bridget Catholic Church, both before and during retirement.

From Susan:

The countless memorable lessons I learned from my Dad can't be easily summarized in a few short sentences. The best I can manage is a woefully incomplete list. How to tie my saddle shoes, how to ride a two-wheeler, how to tell a joke, how to comfort a broken heart, how to live a purposeful life after retirement, the value of moving past profound altercations, and why not to add yellow food coloring to the Thanksgiving gravy. Just a small sampling from a lifetime of lessons he left me with. Thanks Dad.

From Marsha:

Known as "Skip" to his wife and friends, he could never skip the opportunity for a funny, and often corny, aside (always uttered with a sly grin and a twinkle in his eye).

In his retirement, he took up cooking with an adventurous gusto. It was always a treat to relish his special menus, as well as the tins of homemade Christmas cookies he & Gwen made for family and friends.

Bill's memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Woods on January 23, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a family only private internment.
