William Hatcher Obituary

William Herbert Hatcher

Mar 30, 1939 - Jul 6, 2024

William Herbert Hatcher, also known as Bill, of Chester, VA, went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 6, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

He leaves behind a loving wife of 60 years, Nancy L. Hatcher; five daughters, Robin Henderson (Butch), Tina Whitby, Dawn Hardesty, (Bob), Tracey Stotler (Tim), and Michele Kiefer. He also has eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, James "Jim" Hatcher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Lois Hatcher; sister, Ruth Teeter; and brother, Robert Lee Hatcher.

Bill was born March 30, 1939, to Archie and Lois Hatcher, in Selma, NC. He served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961. Immediately following, he began a career with DuPont, retiring after 31 years. He then started a successful handyman service in the Chester area. His first love was Jesus, and wasn't ashamed to share the gospel. He was a mighty prayer warrior, whose family often depended on him during time of need. He loved fishing, and all kinds of sports, and could often be found at the YMCA. He loved cooking, but desserts were his specialty; all looked forward to getting a piece of anything he made. He also enjoyed gardening, and sharing his bounty with family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 10 a.m., at Chester Church of God, 4700 Lee St., Chester, VA, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the service, at 2 p.m., at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, at Amelia.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate. Condolences may be registered to the family online at jtmorriss.com.

I knew Bill from the YMCA, and missed seeing him there after the pandemic lockdown. In fact not long ago I asked someone who might know if they had heard anything about Bill. I often walked the treadmill next to his and always enjoyed his company while exercising. Of course he always had the Bible in front of him and shared many scriptural insights. We also talked food and cooking, and I still have a couple of his recipes. He was a gentle and kind person, and a good man. I know you will miss him, as will I.
