William Hoffler Obituary

HOFFLER, William Biggs, 85, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023 after a long and difficult journey with Dementia. The welcoming committee in Heaven includes his parents, Eleanor Biggs and William Lloyd Hoffler; brother, Commander Robert Hoffler; and dear friends Jack, Bernie, Ellwood, and Steve. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Carol Roper Hoffler; sister, Carole Ann Ross (Eddie); son, Brad Hoffler (Kendall); grandchildren, Anna, Jack, William, and Ty; and step-son Troy Shapiro. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Bill joined the U.S. Marines. He later graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Reynolds Metals Company for many years where he designed machinery for which he was awarded three U.S. Patents. Bill later ran his own commercial real estate company, Properties Unlimited. Bill was an excellent pilot and enjoyed flying a Cessna 185R with his flight club and later his own Grumman Tiger out of Hanover airport. He was a sailor and sailed out of Fishing Bay and Rappahannock Yacht Clubs. Bill was a scuba diver and enjoyed diving on wrecks off the coast of North Carolina as well as coral reefs in Costa Rica.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 11220 Nuckols Road, Glen Allen, VA 23059. A lunch reception will follow the service.
