William Loving Obituary

LOVING, William Edward Jr., GLEN ALLEN, 81, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Woods Loving; daughters, Anne Claytor Taylor (Tommy), and Lynne Loving Wilkerson (Troy); son, William Edward Loving, III "Chip" (Corey); grandchildren, Tyler Claytor (Phyllis), Garrett Claytor (Vika), Connor Claytor (Katie), Maddy Claytor (fiancé, Matt Banholzer), Duncan Wilkerson, William Edward Loving, IV "Liam," and Hudson Loving; and great-grandsons, Jonas Claytor and Arlo Claytor. He was also loved by many cousins, family, and friends.

Born in Abilene, TX, he was the son of the late William Edward Loving, Sr. and the late Iona Zella Purkey Loving. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Wayne Claytor.

William had many names and was affectionately known best as Dad, Grandpa, Papa, and, depending upon when you met him, he was Eddie, Ed, or Bill.

Bill was a faithful member of Glen Allen Ruritan and president the inaugural year of Glen Allen Days. He loved watching his grandchildren participate in an array of activities and rarely missed any event, no matter how big or small. Traveling with his family in the 1976 Plymouth Voyager van and later camping in the RV were the highlights of many summers. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, woodworking, and attending Bluegrass and Gospel concerts. Bill's servant heart was known throughout the community. He never turned down a project that allowed him to help others. Whether he knew what he was doing or not, he always figured it out! For 30 years, he worked and owned the family picture framing business, Loving Crafts, Inc. Along the way, he made good friends and lasting relationships while working at Bank of America, Furst Brother's Company, Pleasant's Hardware, and Cedarfield.

His faith was very important and he was a loyal member of Fellowship Community Church of Mechanicsville. When he wasn't able to attend physically, he would tune in and listen online. He had a special quality of care for others and would often touch base to ensure his friends were doing ok - even when he wasn't.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Woody's Funeral Home at Atlee Chapel, Mechanicsville. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 28 at 2 p.m. at Woody's. The interment will be Friday, March 29 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions can be made in William Edward Loving, Jr's memory to the American Heart Association. Online condolences and fond memories of Bill may be offered to the family on the Woody-Atlee Chapel website.

He was Ed when I first met him and remains Ed to me. We had many good times from when he first started dating my friend Margaret, through weddings, the birth of our children and various houses we lived. Hard to believe we are both great- grandparents. What a journey and Ed was smiling the whole way. I hope all the memories will help the family in their sadness. My sympathy to you all.
