Burton Stevens Obituary

Burton P. "Pete" Stevens, age 91 of Harleysville, formerly of Whitemarsh Township, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Peter Becker Community. He was a retired salesman for Management Recruiters and for many years helped his father manage their family hardware store. Mr. Stevens was born in Rochester, NY, the son of the late Burton P. and Ethel Crombie Stevens, Sr. Mr. Stevens was raised in Rochester, NY and graduated from East High School in Rochester and went on to Heidelburg College in Ohio. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Navy. For many years he was active in various local chorus groups such as the Main Liners in Bryn Mawr and the Whitemarsh Militia Men and the Songsters in Rochester. He was a member of Saint Peters Lutheran Church in Lafayette hill and was a long time member of their choir. While living in Rochester he became a member of the Masonic Order. While living in the Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, Mr. Stevens was active in the veterans group there. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dolores "Dee" (Smith) Stevens; two daughters, Deborah Haig (William) of Harleysville, Patricia Stevens of Hatfield; one son, James P. Stevens of Blackwood, NJ; one grandson, Zane. Friends may call Saturday, June 23rd from 10 to 11 a.m. at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, 3025 Church Road, Lafayette hill. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be in George Washington Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the above church. Funeral arrangements are by Lownes Funeral Home of Lafayette Hill.
