Andrew Y. "Andy" Nickolatos, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek surrounded by his family, following an accidental fall three days before Christmas.

Andy was born to Andrew and Irene Nickolatos in San Francisco and lived his entire life in the Vallejo and Benicia communities.

He attended local schools and graduated from Vallejo High School. He attended University of San Francisco and served in the U.S. Army.

He worked for many years with his late brothers, Jerry and Danny, in the retail produce and liquor store industries in Vallejo and owned and operated the Black & White Liquor Store on 1st Street in Benicia for several years. Andy later owned and operated Tri-City Liquor Distributing and was a sales representative for Julliard Alpha Wholesale Liquor Distributors. One of Andy's many passions was gardening, and upon retirement, he co-founded and co-operated Jack & Andy's Yard Maintenance Service with his buddy, Jack Stiltz. Andy passed away doing what he loved to domaking yards beautiful for people he cared for.

Andy was extremely proud of his Greek heritage and enjoyed many trips to Greece. One of his and his wife, Bobbie's proudest moments was attending the Olympic Games in Greece in 2004. He and Bobbie also enjoyed traveling to many other countries including France, Italy, Egypt and Mexico, as well as traveling to fun and exciting cities in the U.S. such as Boston, New York and New Orleans.

He was an avid duck hunter and thoroughly enjoyed his annual hunting trip to Canada with Jack. He was fortunate to have just returned from this trip in late September. He was also a true horse racing fan, enjoying the "Game of Kings" and an avid fan of the New York Yankees and De La Salle football. He also enjoyed being a member of the Native Sons in Benicia.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jerry and Danny Nickolatos; and his son, Steve Silva.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Bobbie Lynn; sons, Andrew III, James and Mark Nickolatos, and Kenny and Greg (Michele) Silva; grandchildren, Andrew IV (Grecia), Cory and Morgan Nickolatos, and Michael and Kaylyn Silva; great grandchildren, Andreas, Luciano and Italia Nickolatos; and his dog and walking companion "Setti".

Visitation will be held 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5 and funeral service will be held 12 noon Friday, Jan. 6 at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo. Burial will be private at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon.

Memorial contributions are preferred to Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1224 Alabama St., Vallejo 94590.

I always enjoyed talking to Andy when we would bump into each other on First Street while walking our dogs. He was a truly sweet gentleman and I was shocked just yesterday to hear of his passing. I'd wondered why I hadn't seen him for the past several months. SO SO SORRY to hear of his death. I miss his presence on First Street and his great conversation.

Black and White Liquor store in Benicia was the place to find Andy, many years ago, and buy a small Coke out of his cooler full of soda bottles sitting in ice cold water. He would say, 'here you are, little Lewis girl, now go home'. RIP Andy...I will always have cherished memories of you.

Dear Bobbie, We were stunned to learn of Andy's passing just today from mutual friends. Also we are so sorry we did not know as we would surely have come to the services. Andy was dear to Jon's heart and has many good memories of him.

Please accept our sincere condolences. Carol and Kevin Lyons are out of town for several weeks. No doubt they would have been there as well. I will let her know of Andy's passing. Please know you will be in our thoughts and prayers for strength to bear your loss.
