Tobias Hawkins Obituary
Dr. Tobias Hawkins, Sr., aka "Toboy", 71, a resident of Stockton, passed away after a long illness, Oct. 15.
He was born in Vallejo, June 22, 1944, the youngest of seven children born to the union of the late Tim and Annie B. Hawkins.
Tobias received his formal education through the Vallejo School District, graduating from Vallejo High School, Class of 1963, where he was a star basketball player.
Tobias was drafted into the United States Army, and also served two years active duty during the Vietnam conflict. He also worked as a Planner and Estimator on Mare Island Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1994 with 30 years of government service.
In 1991 he opened his first business, J&T Enterprise an Afro Centric Clothing Store which quickly became a staple in the community. JT Enterprise was a supporter of NVLL, Tanner/Willie B. Adkins Project, Omega Boys and Girls Club, just to name a few.
Tobias always had a thirst for education, graduating from Solano Community College in 1972. At the age of 60 he decided to further his education, in a short time span of three years he earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees and on Aug. 15, 2007 he earned his Doctorate Degree in Ministry from Southwest Bible College and Seminary in Jennings, LA with a 4.0 GPA.
Dr. Hawkins taught a weekly bible study at the Shamia Recovery Center for a number of years. In 2003 after he relocated to Stockton, he volunteered his time as a Chaplain. He is also the founder of Good News Outreach Ministries.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tim Hawkins, Annie B. Hawkins Birdstraw; step father, John Birdstraw; sister, Missionary Florine Reason; two brothers, Tim Hawkins, Jr., Elder Climothy Hawkins, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Hawkins; son, Pastor Tobias (Valerie) Hawkins, Jr; daughter, Tiffany (Marco) McCleod; step daughter, Latisha Murray; brother, Jimmy (Freddie) Hawkins; two sisters, Corine (David) Hudson, Edna Mae Lewis; sister in law, Barbara Hawkins; brother in law, Elder Norwood Reason and 12 grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m., at Union Baptist Church, 128 Encerti Ave., Vallejo. Burial will follow at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon.

My condolences to the Hawkins Family. Tobias was a close friend to my sons and myself during our stay in Vallejo. He was one of the few first people I met when I transfered to Mare Island Naval Shipyard. He was a great spritual guidance too many also and he loved God, Family and friends. Sorry for the late acknowledgement but I only heard about this a few week ago, but my family felt the pain of your loss. Prayers with all.

My condolences to the Hawkins Family upon the passing of Tobias. I learned of his passing on yesterday. Toboy and I were high school classmates and friends over the years. He was a genuine friend. I know he is resting in peace with our Lord and Savior.

"Hawk" and I were friends, lived in Country Club Crest, played basketball on the same team at Vallejo High School, and graduated in 1963 together.
We loss track of each other but, I thought of him often.
The world was a much better place when he was here.
