Alexander Boyt Obituary

June 11, 2004
Alexander D. Boyt, 23, of Moon Township, died Friday, June 11, 2004, in Preston County, W.Va., as the result of an automobile accident.
Born Aug. 4, 1980, in Wheeling, W. Va., he was the eldest son of Margaret Emma Boyt and Joseph Boyt. He was a graduate of St. James Elementary School, Sewickley; Quigley Catholic H.S., Baden; and the Arizona State University, Tempe. Employed at the Seattle Children's Home, Seattle, Wash., for the past two and a half years, he recently moved back to the Pittsburgh area and was working at the Watson Institute in Leetsdale as a counselor. An accomplished musician and composer, Alex played the guitar and violin, recording many of the pieces he wrote in his own unique style. Alex clearly understood his place before God and it was reflected in all aspects of his wonderful short life.
In addition to his parents, Alex is survived by his brothers, Zachary, New York City; Aaron, Tempe, Ariz.; grandmothers, Jean Emma, Pittston; Kay Boyt, Ambridge; uncles, Charles Emma and David Boyt, aunt, Terri Boyt; and many cousins, great-uncles and aunts.
Friends will be received today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Richard D. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 328 Beaver St., Sewickley, PA 15143. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. James Roman Catholic Church, Sewickley. Interment will be on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Rocco's Cemetery, Pittston.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Seattle Children's Home, 2142 Tenth Ave. West, Seattle, WA 98119, or to the Watson Institute, 301 Camp Meeting Road, Sewickley, PA 15143.

I'm so sorry to hear about Alex. My baby sister, Amy, was months behind in telling me. Although I was much closer to Zach than to Alex, Alex was a joy to be around. He always made me laugh, whether he knew it or not. I'll always remember him fondly. Our family's thoughts are with you.

Mrs. Boyt and Family,

I have worked for Sewickley Valley Pediatrics for 18 years and remember your son and your family on your many visits to the office. I was saddened to learn of Alex's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this most difficult time. From reading the tributes, I can understand what a wonderful young man he was - may you find peace with the passing of time.

To the Boyt Family,

We were at All Saints Newman Center in Tempe from 1999 to 2002; Penni as Director of Liturgical Music, and Gary as a bass player. Alex was a member of our music ministry at that time and was truly a gift to the Newman Center. Not only was he an incredible music talent, he was quick with a smile and a helping hand too. We were impressed with Alex's depth and spirituality, and also his sense of humor. (Even in the face of his guitar cable having a nasty habit of picking a local radio signal at inopportune moments - Alex took it all in stride!) He was a very special person.

You are in our prayers.

Dear Friends---We're so very sorry for your loss. We remember Baby Alex and how he embraced life, even as a toddler. We remember too, what a loved little boy he was and how happy he made his parents. Know that you are all in our prayers and that we will always remember Alex.

Love,

Barney and Kathy Freland

To the family of Alex Boyt:

My family & I met Alex one time. One time was all it took to see what a special person he was. We met him the day before his tragic accident. He came to meet our son Thomas, age 8 --- he was to be Thomas' TSS through the Watson Institute. I was totally amazed at how he and Thomas hit it off. Thomas was showing Alex his karaoke machine & I couldn't believe it when Alex jumped right up and started singing with him in front of a family that he had just met. He seemed to be so comfortable around us and I could tell that Thomas thought he was THE COOLEST. I cannot tell you how dumbfounded I was when I was told of his accident. I cannot imagine what you must be going through but I wanted to let you know that even though we only met with Alex for about one hour, he made an impact on our lives. He was obviously an extremely special person. You have our deepest sympathy.

Dear Boyt Family,

I am truly astonished and saddened to hear of Alex's death. I really feel like crying. He was a great person to work with here at Seattle Children's Home McGraw Center. Our job requires very much of us personally, mentally, physically and definitely emotionally. My most fondest memory of Alex occurred when one extremely physically aggressive client insisted on my changing the rules to pacify their wants, Alex step forward and corrected the client's behavior without requiring any assistance from me or other staff! Alex was one of the few green (new) staff that showed exemplary leadership skills. May the Lord comfort you and your family during your time of bereavement

Dear Joe,

I am feeling a profound sense of loss that makes itself present in the lump in my throat and the ache in my heart at the news of your son's passing. Joe, while working for you at Philipp Brothers, I knew the love you had for your sons and that your life was all about making them happy. It is what I have given my own life for -my girls, Omi, Chana and Amina. So, I know there are no words that can lessen the sorrow, but I pray that you find comfort in the wonderful memories you created with him, and that the Lord has placed your son by His side forever. And, forever, he will now watch over you and his brothers.

Lovingly, your former secretary, and forever friend,
