Bernard Tkaczyk

Bernard A. Tkaczyk, 86, of Swoyersville, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Mr. Tkaczyk was born in Plymouth, son of the late Marcel and Stella Rujawski Tkaczyk, and attended the Plymouth Borough Schools. He had worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Lopez, Pa., in New Mexico for several years. He had been employed by the United Pants Co. at Plymouth and later at Swoyersville for more than 45 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of the Parish Community of Holy Name, St. Mary’s, Swoyersville and had been a member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the ILGWU and the Amalgamated Cotton Garment & Allied Industries Union. He especially enjoyed his garden and was an avid, devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Laura Piekara Tkaczyk; brothers, Albert, Joseph, Stanley, Frank and Chester Tkaczyk; sisters, Mrs. Helen Rubic and Mrs. Jennifer Krystafaski.
Surviving are sons, Bernard Tkaczyk, Edwardsville; David Tkaczyk and his wife, Cathy, Kingston Twp.; a daughter, Mrs. Theresa Nixon and her husband, James, Swoyersville; brothers, Dick Kotchik, Swoyersville, and Leonard Tkaczyk, Plymouth; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home. Inc., 451 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre with Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Name, St. Mary’s Church, Swoyersville. Interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. Friends may call Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. Christian Wake Service will be conducted Monday evening.
