NANTICOKE — Dennis E. Yeager died Sept. 5, 2017, at home under the loving care of his family and Celtic Hospice.
Dennis, known as many to Virg, was born in Nanticoke on June 17, 1940, to Clifford and Carol Yeager. He attended school at Newport High and from 1957-1962 he was in the Army, stationed in both Kentucky and Hawaii. In 1968, he married Cathy Rinehimer and they would have celebrated 50 wonderful, loving, and laugh-filled years together this spring. Virg lived life with a toughness and determination admired by all who knew him. Medical mistakes and physical obstacles led him to develop an attitude that life is short and we should cherish each day. He often said that these last four years of his life were the happiest he had ever known. During the last years of his life, he fulfilled a life-long dream of visiting Alaska and bagged his own deer the same day his grandson Jaden shot his first as they hunted together, watched many soccer and basketball games of his granddaughter Lottia, and went lake trout fishing in his beloved Canada. He was never bitter or angry and always lent a hand to someone in need.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy, his daughter Missy Barnes and son-in-law Wally Barnes, and the absolute delight of his life, his grandchildren Jaden and Lottia Barnes. Additionally, he is survived by dear sister Joyce Arnold, numerous nieces and nephews, fishing buddies, and many friends who will miss him. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his brother Carl.
The family will receive visitors at McCune Funeral Home, 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Celtic Hospice or Dorrance Township Ambulance Association.
