Dorothy Hoff Obituary

KINGSTON — Dorothy A. Grant Hoff, 86, of Kingston, passed away peacefully on Sept. 9, 2015, at Manor Care Health Service, Kingston.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre on April 21, 1929, and was a daughter of the late David J. and Annie Jones Hughes.

She was married in 1952 to Michael J. Grant, who passed away in 1985. She later married Dale Hoff, her high school sweetheart in 1994, who passed away in 2007.

Dorothy was a 1947 graduate of Meyers High School, and went on to work at Auchincloss, Parker and Redpath.

After the birth of her children, she worked in retail for many years including Kiddie Shoppe, Racusin's, Steve Hydock Diamonds and Sally's Accents. She was also part owner of Intimate Elegance, Scranton.

Dorothy was a member of the First Church of Christ, Wilkes-Barre, for most of her life. Her greatest joy was singing in the choir. The congregation always enjoyed her beautiful voice. She was also a member of the Orpheus Society. While married to Dale Hoff, and living in Delaware, she was a member of Concord Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and women's group.

In addition to Dorothy's parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Guesto; brothers, Warren and Byron Hughes and Richard Dell.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose family meant everything to her. She will be missed every day by her daughters, Bonnie Rosick and her husband Stephen, Pringle, and Sherry Lowry and her husband, Robert, Louisville, Kentucky; granddaughters, Stacey Rosick Crecy and her husband, Kevin, Jenny Rosick Fusco and her husband, Michael, Michelle Lowry Mindel and her husband, Thomas; grandson Trent Lowry; great-granddaughters, Brianna and Kaitlyn Crecy; great-grandson, Chase Fusco; sisters, Jane Hughes, Margaret Puchalski and her husband, Ted; brother, Charles Hughes and his wife, Susan; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday from the Daniel J. Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, 617 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with Pastor Joel Stauffer officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to service Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ, Carey Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.

Her family wishes to thank Dr. John Citti, Dr. Juan DeRojas for the years of care they gave their mother, and the caring nurses, aides, and therapists at Manor Care Health Services for their kindness and compassion.

My husband & I had many great times with her and Dale. And good visits after they moved from Delaware. Dottie was always strong in spirit and a good friend. Knowing she is with her Lord is comforting.
