Stephen Burrage Obituary

Stephen Anthony
"Tony" Burrage
Smith Mountain Lake, VA
Stephen Anthony (Tony) Burrage, 63, of Smith Mountain Lake, VA, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, January 30, 2011.
Tony was preceded in death by his father and mother, William Ralph and Marjorie Burrage.
Tony was born on March 12, 1947, in Roanoke, VA, and lived many places during his amazing life, however, some of his best times he enjoyed at Smith Mt. Lake and the Florida Keys. Tony was retired and prior owner/co-founder of Applied Control Technology, Inc. in Morrisville, NC. He had a brilliant mind and with the help of "hand picked" employees developed a very successful company. Tony had a "zest" for life and loved fast boats, fast cars, and "remote controls." He was an extremely generous person to many people in his life. He loved doing things for people he cared about. Those left to cherish the many wonderful memories with Tony are his Smith Mountain Lake family, his numerous lake friends and associates, his dedicated employees of which many remained in his life, and several cousins. Tony made many friends wherever he went.
There will be a private celebration of Tony's life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Tony's wish was for donations to be made to the Franklin County Humane Society or your local SPCA in memory all of the animals who did not find a home.

We knew Tony for a short time in 1994 when we bought one of his "toys" - a beautiful Heritage Harley Davidson. He was so friendly and kind that we never forgot what a special guy he was. We were saddened to read he has passed away.

I first met Toney when he lived next door to me at Lookout Point. I remember the parties on his dock, our conversations and him sharing his knoledge with me. I listened and learned a lot. I gave him a knife and he also gave me one in return, which I will always keep. But when I think of Toney, most of all I remember the boat rides, especialy when he put me behind the controls. I remember him washing the sand from his dock for hours. I remember how proud he was of his toys and especially his elevator in his new garage. The word "outhouse" will always have a different meaning. I can't say we did not have our disagreements , but most of all we remained friends and got over them. Toney Burrage will always be missed and remembered when I return to the lake and especially when I ride by his dock. ------ Barry Freeman
