Ernest T. Jendrzejewski, known affectionately as Ernie, passed away Sept. 9, 2025, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Feb. 22, 1947, in Wilkes-Barre, he dedicated his life to serving his community as the third-generation operator of the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home in Wilkes-Barre, a testament to his family's enduring commitment to compassionate care.
Ernie graduated from Marymount High School in 1965 and continued his education at King's College. He received his degree from Huston-Tillotson University in 1969 and graduated from the American Academy McAllister Institute in New York in 1970, preparing him for a lifelong career in funeral service.
A devoted member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Ernie was known for his warm spirit and deep empathy towards others. His passion extended beyond his career; he cherished time spent with his family, particularly enjoying moments filled with laughter, including playing poker with loved ones. Ernie was not only a devoted husband, celebrating 54 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, the former Monica Katsak, but also a proud father and grandfather, reveling in the joy of family gatherings.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Monica; sons, Stephen, of Wilkes-Barre; Joseph and his wife, Kerin, of Swoyersville; Ernest and his companion, Kim Rotell, of West Pittston; William and his wife, Tess, of Shavertown; and Anthony, of Wilkes-Barre Township; daughter, Judy Partington and her husband, Richard, of Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Brianne, Joseph, Haley, Emily, Lauren and Lily Jendrzejewski; Rosalyn, Richard and Sydney Partington; Dominic and Roman Bartell; Sierra and Isla Maris Jendrzejewski; and Taden V. Jendrzejewski. He also left behind two great-grandchildren, Jackson Mark and Greysen Edward-Michael; brother, Joseph J. Jendrzejewski and his wife, Susan Stetz-Jendrzejewski, of Nanticoke; sister, Carolyn Jendrzejewski, of Wilkes-Barre; numerous nieces and nephews; and aunt, Alice Jendrejewski of Moosic.
Ernie held a number of interests outside of work, including a love for harness horse racing and trips spent in Florida. He was an avid sports fan, supporting the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics and Pittsburgh Steelers. Breakfast was his favorite meal of the day — a small detail that embodied his appreciation for life's simple pleasures.
He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Hank and Joyce Thompson, and his nephew, Alan Thompson.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Jendrzejewski Funeral Home in Wilkes-Barre. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, in Our Lady of Hope Parish. The Rev. John S. Terry, pastor, will be celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming.
Ernest T. Jendrzejewski's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, compassion and unwavering dedication to his work and family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
