Esther L. (Hillard) Deppner, 86, passed away on Dec. 28, 2022, in Leominster, Mass., after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Born in Kingston, Pa., on Apr. 18, 1936, she was the daughter of Franklin D. Hillard and Ruth Cannon Hillard. She was a graduate of Kingston High School, where she was the only female in the marching band.
In 1960, she married Lewis J. Deppner of Wilkes-Barre, and they later moved to Hyde Park, N.Y. He predeceased her in 2000.
Esther worked as a secretary to State Supreme Court Justice Judith Hillary for 33 years. She was a seamstress, an avid N.Y. Giants football fan, and loved going to Disney World with her husband. She was also a swim mother, spending many weekends at the pool and traveling to meets.
Esther is survived by her daughters: Diana Karron of Kingston, N.Y.; and Kristina Mastovich and son-in-law, Martin, of Shirley, Mass. She has seven grandchildren: Michael Mastovich, Martin Mastovich and Kayla Mastovich of Massachusetts; and Saman Soltankhah, Shaheen "Duke" Soltankhah, Joan Karron and Edward Karron of Kingston, N.Y. She also has three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her parents, and her brother, Frank Hillard.
A celebration of Esther's life will be held in the spring, with details to be announced.
