WEST HAZLETON — Lawrence N. Casper, 79, of West Hazleton, passed away in Florida on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018.
Born in Hazleton, he was a son of the late Joseph and Helen (Matelevich) Casper, a 1957 graduate of Hazleton High School, and an Army veteran who served as a Military Policeman.
In earlier years, Larry worked as a spray painter at Lewis Steel in the Valmont Industrial Park. He later worked in the same capacity at Barrett-Haentjens and later retired from there as a receiver from the shipping department in 1998. He was also self-employed, part-time, as an auto body mechanic.
Larry was a kind, hard-working individual who did everything to the best of his ability and was liked by everyone. He was a man of strong faith and a member of Faith Assembly of God Church where he sang in the choir. As a result of his singing talent, he was featured as lead singer for several bands, performing genres from rock & roll to country.
In his leisure time, Larry enjoyed playing sports, doing yard work, wood-working, golfing, camping and skiing. He and his wife loved country line dancing and the couple appeared together multiple times on TV. They also traveled extensively in their RV, visiting most of the states along with Mexico and Canada.
Larry loved to be in Florida playing shuffleboard, dominoes, 9's and shooting pool. He always enjoyed spending time with his wonderful friends there, and they will certainly miss his smile.
He always had a smile for everyone and would do anything for his wife, family and friends. He was a great dad and the best husband anyone could ever ask for.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Albert and Edward Casper; and a sister, Anne Pariso.
Surviving are his wife, the former Carol Lannon, with whom he would have celebrated his 59th anniversary in February; daughters, Cindy Wegmann and her husband, Thomas of New Jersey, Kim Casper, and Dr. Kelly O'Malley and her husband, Joseph "Jody," of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Ashley Wegmann, of Georgia, Taylor Wegmann, of New Jersey, Brooks Wegmann, of Ohio, Sara Wegmann, of New Jersey, Joseph O'Malley, of Pennsylvania, Taryn O'Malley, of Pennsylvania, and Brenna O'Malley, of Pennsylvania; a sister, Eleanor Forliano, of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the Hazle Chapel of Krapf & Hughes Funeral Home, 426 W. Broad St., Hazleton, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
His funeral service will begin Saturday with a brief final viewing at the funeral home and a procession leaving at 9:15 a.m. to travel to Faith Assembly of God Church for continued service at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Vine Street Cemetery, Hazleton.
In lieu of flowers, Larry's family would suggest contributions in his memory mailed to either: Faith Assembly of God Church, 2890 Route 93, West Hazleton, PA 18202; the Cornerstone Church, 101 Cornerstone Church Place, Davenport, FL 33897; or The American Cancer Society, 101 W.
