KINGSTON — Nicholas D. Giordano, M.D., 88, of Kingston, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, Nov. 7, 2024, at Allied Hospice Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre.
Born June 11, 1936, in Guardia Lombardi, Italy, he was the son of the late Ettore and Maria (Damiano) Giordano. He graduated from high school in Italy and immigrated to the United States in 1953, where he lived with his aunt and uncle, Dolores and Carl Giordano. Because of the language barrier, he attended two additional years of high school and graduated from Kingston High School in 1955.
In 1959, Dr. Giordano graduated from Wilkes College (University) where he excelled in soccer, and was named MVP three out of his four years on the team. His name also appears in the Wilkes College Hall of Fame. Following college, Dr. Giordano served and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. He did extensive medical research at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, and Huron Road Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Giordano graduated from Case Western University Medical School in 1975. He completed a three-year internal medicine residency and enjoyed a private practice in internal medicine in Kingston. For over 30 years he was a caring, compassionate and dedicated physician. He was also medical director of Leader East Nursing Home, Kingston, from 1980 to 2005. He was certified in long-term care and was involved in the development and organization of the End of Life/Palliative Care Program.
Dr. Giordano was a member of the Luzerne County Medical Society, Pa. Medical Society, American Medical Association and medical staff of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was also a member of the Westmoreland Club, Wilkes-Barre, and Fox Hill Country Club, West Pittston. He was a faithful member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin.
Dr. Giordano enjoyed golf and gardening. His gardenias bloomed throughout the year and his roses, dahlias, and gardenias were admired by all, and shared with many. He was particularly proud of growing fig trees in this unlikely climate. He was also a wine maker, and received several medals in wine making competitions.
His family was paramount to him — his wife, children, and grandchildren brought him his greatest joy. He was loved by many and will be sadly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Giordano.
Surviving are his loving wife of 42 years, Barbara (Mancia) Giordano, Kingston; daughter, Lisa Giordano, Courtdale; son, Nicholas Giordano, Jr. and his wife Joyce, Exeter; and son, Joseph Giordano, Nanticoke; grandchildren: Nikki Moore and her husband, David; Jonathon Derhammer; and Samuel Giordano; sister-in-law, Domenica Giordano; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Maria Goretti Church, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin, Pa. The parish Rosary group will pray the divine mercy chaplet and Rosary in the church 30 minutes before the Mass. All are invited to attend. Family and friends may call Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at church. Arrangements entrusted to Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Main St., Plains Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, 39 E. Jackson Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701, in Dr. Giordano's memory.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of this kind man. He was my Grandmother´s doctor & although she was not
fond of doctor visits, she actually looked forward to visits with him! I had the pleasure of working with him in the ER & he shared his gift of compassion there to those in acute need.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the Giordano family. Dr G was the most compassionate physician I have ever met. He was my dad's doctor and I will never forget how he went out of his way and made sure to be with my father right to the end. Dr Giordano was a very special man and now he is in Heaven where there is no sickness and dying.

Dr. Giordano was our family physician for many years. His gentle demeanor and compassionate approach to tending to his patients distinguished his medical practice from others. You truly felt that not only was he your doctor, but he was your friend. He was fine gentleman, a wonderful physician, and an excellent diagnostician. May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to his family.
