SCRANTON — Frederick "Fred" R. Killian died Monday evening, May 17, 2021, in the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center in Scranton after a long battle with Dementia. Fred is now resting in eternal peace and his own memories will no longer be a struggle for him.
He was born in Shickshinny, Salem Township. On Nov. 3, 1936, son of the late Fred and Josephine (Schuckers) Killian.
Fred was a 1956 graduate of Shickshinny High School and a U.S. Navy veteran. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Procter & Gamble in the Mehoopany plant for over 20 years. He was a former member of the Tunkhannock Fraternal Order of Eagles and Triton Hose Company in Tunkhannock.
He was a very kind and patient, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, bingo and could often be seen at the slot machines in various casinos. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roland Killian.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Jennie L. (Lane) Killian; sons, Robert and Melanie, Bradley and Karen; brothers, David and Melinda, William and Jane, Ralph and Bernadine Killian; grandchildren, Mark and Sarah Killian, Miranda and Kyle Kelley; great-grandchildren, Conley, Meara and Maille Killian.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service which will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, 401 Penn Ave. Scranton, PA, 18503, or to the charity of their choice.
