Raymond "Butch" Deiter Jr. passed away Jan. 30, 2017, at Riverstreet Manor where he had been a guest for two weeks.
Butch was born May 29, 1948, in Wilkes-Barre, to the late Helen (DiMaggio) Deiter.
He attended Coughlin High School and received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corp. He was employed by Valley Crest Nursing Home prior to retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his boys.
He was preceded in death by his mother; and his son, Raymond III.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne (Simko) Deiter; and son, John (Rachel); his two grandchildren, Jordyn and Jacob, who were the light of his life; sisters, Ann Marie Laury, of Plains Township, Veronica Valentukones, of Luzerne and Helen Demchak, of Lynwood; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, from the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, 136 Maffett St., Plains Township, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Hudson Road, Plains Township, with the Rev. John Lambert as celebrant. Interment will be at the parish cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
His family wishes to thank the staff at Riverstreet Manor for their care and a special thank you to Barbara O'Malley for her care, concern and love, she was his angel. Also to Dr. Charles Lentini for his care over the years.

My deepest sympathy to the DEITER Family. I worked with Ray at valley crest nursing home, and also bowled with him, john lavan, pete popedolpli. He always like to kid around at work. R.I.P. Ray.
