SHAVERTOWN — Ruth Mary Morgan Corcoran, 91 years of age, passed away peacefully on Oct. 27, 2024, at the Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas, realizing her wish to return "home" after a long illness.
Ruth was born July 4, 1933, in Shavertown, to William Henry Morgan and Margaret Belle Mehm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Corcoran; and her sisters: Verna Jule, Margaret Ann and Elizabeth Jane.
Ruth was a graduate of Kingston Township High School, as well as a graduate of the Brooklyn N.Y. Methodist School of Nursing, and subsequently worked as an RN (licensed in both NY and PA) at Nesbitt Hospital in Kingston.
She later retired, focusing her time on raising her three sons. Ruth also volunteered for many years for the American Red Cross at countless local blood drives. Ruth loved art and spent many hours painting, sketching and drawing, and was a longtime student at Sue Hand's Imagery in Dallas. She was also a consummate home baker with her famous Christmas cookies, birthday cakes, breads and rolls.
Ruth was a devoted mother, focusing much of her time on her three sons, her two granddaughters, and her new great-granddaughter. Ruth was a member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church for her entire life and was also a member of their Ruth Circle.
Ruth is survived by her loving family, who will miss her every day. She leaves behind her sons: Edward and his wife, Patricia Mascornick; Bil and his wife, Carolyn Yencharis; and Timothy and his husband, Justin Griffith; grandchildren: Kelly Corcoran and her husband, Sean Loughrey; and Katherine Emsweller and her husband, Andrew Emsweller; and Ruth's newborn great-granddaughter, Ella Emsweller.
The family would like to thank the staff at Meadows Nursing and Meadows Manor for the kindness and compassion they offered Ruth.
Services for Ruth will be held privately at the convenience of her family.
Contributions in Ruth's name can be made to the Blue Chip Animal Refuge, 974 Lockville Road, Dallas, PA 18612.
Arrangements will be made by Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, Shavertown.

I grew up next to the Corcoran family. Ned and I were best friends.., my brother Gerry was friends with Tim and My brother Jim and Billy were friends as well. Many times spent on their front porch... .Many years passed until Ned and I were reunited at the Meadows as we reluctantly brought out mom´s to what would be their final stop..life is short, savor every moment..Joe Mihalick

She was such a firecracker. I will miss all the good days and bad. I am so honored I got to be her nurse and care for her as long as I did. I miss her everyday and will never forget her or you guys. I'm sorry for your loss. I'm so glad I was able to help any way I could and she's at peace. I will forever miss and love my Ruth.

Ruth was one of my very first art students when I opened my studio 48 years ago. She was a fellow artist and loyal friend to all of us through many years as we all met every Wednesday morning, painted and laughed, learned and laughed, supported one another through a few tears and then laughed some more! Ruth always challenged each of us to do our best and to BE our best. She was an Art Buddy extraordinaire. We all loved her so very, very much.

Lived across from the Corcorans on Shaver Ave at first (fond memories of the cool tree "fort"); then again on Vine St. We were on corner of Vine/Shaver Ave. What a blessing to have had 91 years on this earth! I hope you all find peace in that. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, coming from the Texas panhandle.
