Sandra M. Casey, of Ashley, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 6, 2013, in Commonwealth Hospice of the VNA, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Mountain Top, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Evelyn Carey Coleman and was a graduate of St. Mary's Immaculate Conception School and Fairview High School, class of 1956. Prior to retirement, Sandy was employed by RCA Semiconductor as a technician and by Social Security. She was a member of St. Leo's Church, Ashley.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph A. Casey Sr., on Dec. 3, 2000; by son, Joseph, on Oct. 1, 2011; and infant son, John.
Mrs. Casey is survived by her sons, Lawrence and his wife, Donna, Ashley; Brian and his wife, Lisa, Ashley; Keith and his wife, Christine, Newtown section of Hanover Township; daughters, Kimberly Berrettini, and her husband, Don, Harveys Lake; Alison Casey and her husband David Durko, Ashley; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Kasarda, Paula Elgonitis, Wilkes-Barre; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted Monday at 9 a.m. from the Lehman Family Funeral Service Inc., 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Leo's/Holy Rosary Parish, 33 Manhattan St., Ashley. The Rev. Thomas J. O'Malley will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends and family are invited to call Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home or from 8:30 a.m. Monday until time of service.
The family thanks Geisinger ED and fourth floor nurses, doctors and staff for caring for their mom and the VNA staff for their care, compassion and support during their mom's stay.
