Stephen Koppelman Obituary

Stephen Koppelman died Saturday, July 19, 2025.

He was born in Manhattan's Washington Heights on Feb. 14, 1938, to Abraham and Pearl Koppelman. Steve graduated from Bronx High School of Science and attended the University of the City of New York.

His love of electronics at a young age led him to build his first transmitter in middle school. Steve spent his youth on amateur radio and all its equipment found during weekly explorations on Canal Street. He discovered a love of flying in his early 20s, got his pilot's license and formed a flying club with some friends at the Stormville Airport in upstate New York.

Steve began his career at General Precision Laboratory in Pleasantville, N.Y., and later worked at the Electro Mechanical Corporation in Stamford, Conn., as a project engineer.

In 1968, Steve moved with his first wife, Renate, and young daughter, Suzanna, to White Haven to work for EMCEE Broadcast Products, of which he eventually became president. He founded Communication Microwave Corporation, Comwave, in Mountain Top, which he grew with a talented team to become a leading manufacturer in the wireless broadcast industry. Steve resided in Bear Creek for many years before moving to Dallas with his second wife, Sharon. Steve will be remembered for his integrity, wit and brutal honesty. He loved electronics, flea markets, dim sum and thunderstorms.

Steve is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Suzanna Schaper (Chris) and Melissa Parente (John); grandsons, Jack, Sam and Louis; and granddaughters, Elsa and Celia.

The family would like to thank Steve's caregiver, Kim, who provided him with much joy and comfort, and the staff of Elan Skilled Nursing in Scranton.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 21, at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.
