Leon Koppelman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Park Funeral Home & Crematory - St. Petersburg on Aug. 11, 2025.
Lee Koppelman, 90, passed away on July 29, 2025, in Clearwater, Florida. He was born on January 16, 1935, in Philadelphia to Sidney and Sophie (née Arnowitz) Koppelman. Lee is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen (née Wishner); daughters Deena (Michael) Baker and Missy (David) Nachbar; granddaughter Lindsey (Gabe) Grossman; great-grandsons Aiden, Austin, and Owen Grossman; sister Marcy (Ron) Nevins; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. A 1957 graduate of Gettysburg College, Lee enrolled in ROTC and served in the Army, stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison and the White House. He was a 32nd degree Mason, proudly "raised" by his father. Throughout his distinguished career as an executive in commercial printing and packaging, Lee was known as an extraordinary salesperson. His charismatic personality and genuine approach transformed clients into lifelong friends. An extrovert by nature, he mastered the art of the sales "cold call" and effortlessly connected with people wherever he went. Lee's extensive network included notable personalities in sports, entertainment, and politics. An avid sports enthusiast, Lee played basketball and ran track in college. He completed the first New York City marathon in just over three hours and later transitioned to jogging. His passions included deep-sea fishing, sports, music, concerts, and theater. Lee cherished waterfront living, enjoying homes on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, and in Saint Petersburg, Florida. He and Ellen spent many years exploring the Caribbean together on cruises. Affectionately dubbed "The Mayor" for his exceptional ability to introduce people and bring them together, Lee was known for his warm personality and commitment to maintaining relationships throughout his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association. Rest in peace, Mr. Mayor.
