Dale Stevenson, Jr. Obituary

Dr. Dale Vernon Stevenson, Jr., D.V.M.
Lake Alfred, FL - Dr. Dale Vernon Stevenson, Jr., D.V.M. (aka "Doc," to most, "Steamboat," to many), 88, of Lake Alfred, Florida, passed away, on, June 18, 2021. Doc was born on August 11, 1932, in Ambridge (Beaver County), Pennsylvania. He was the son of (and predeceased by) parents Dale Vernon Stevenson and Viola Stevenson (nee Cuthbert) and the brother of (and predeceased by) sister Retta Elizabeth Stevenson Eckert. Doc was an erudite, funny and highly educated man. He graduated from Auburn University, as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, in 1974 (the elder statesman in his class), following an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree, from Waynesburg College (PA.), in 1955, and a graduate Master of Agriculture degree, from West Virginia University, in 1968 (among other university degrees and studies, too numerous to name). He was a devoted friend to all he encountered and a champion to causes great and small (especially where animals, particularly dogs and apes, were concerned). He was an inventor (with many patents to his name) and a dreamer (there was nothing he couldn't do, if he put his mind and energy to the task). His experiments with pH (acid/base) compounds yielded both professional successes and promising breakthroughs in diverse arenas including animal husbandry, dermatology and citrus greening. He was always within one casino trip from fully perfecting his winning game-of-chance strategy and system. He loved animals, golf, classical music / marches, football (Aliquippa lore, in particular) and sports, in general. He especially loved good conversation, whether the subject was history, politics, sports, or culture. He was truly a "one-of-a-kind" gem, beloved (and now missed) by his many friends, scattered throughout the world. He was a man of spiritual conviction, and he is now happily and comfortably in the hands of his Creator and Lord. There will be a "Celebration of Life," for Doc, on Tuesday, July 6th, at the Lake Alfred Lions Club (located at 175 North Nekoma Ave., Lake Alfred, Florida), from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation, in his memory, to a charity that Doc dearly loved, The Center for Great Apes, P.O. Box 488, Wauchula, Florida 33873.
