Peter Paul Mottes, 84, of Aliquippa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 26, 2020.
Pete was born on November 13, 1935, in Rochester, the son of the late Peter and Katherine Mottes. He was a 1953 graduate of Aliquippa High School and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians Baseball Team, but due to extensive travel requirements and a young family, he decided to stay in Aliquippa where he retired from J&L Steel. He was a member of St. Titus Catholic Church and volunteered in many organizations including the Holy Name Society, St. Vincent DePaul, Eucharist Ministry, and ran the church flea market during the church festivals for years. Pete coached youth baseball throughout his life and founded the West Aliquippa Ackies youth football team. He was an award winning professional Bass fisherman and served in the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy DiCicco; a son, John Mottes; a granddaughter, Melissa Mottes; and special brother-in-law, Christy LeDonne.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet; a son, Pete, Jr. (Andrea) and four daughters, Mary (Dave) Kelly, Kelly (Mark) Koban, Kristie (David) Crisci, and Natalie Ferrebee; 15 grandchildren, Pete, Matt (Jen), Danica, Katie, and Emily Mottes, Sean (Stacy), Scott (Jamee), David Kelly and Kirstin (David) Miller, Samantha (Brian) Herald and Joe Koban, Roman and Enzo Crisci, and Austin and Ryan Ferrebee; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Edwina LeDonne; a brother, Jan Mock and his wife Adrienne; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in DARROCH CREMATION AND FUNERAL TRIBUTES INC., 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa,
www.darrochfuneralhome.com, where prayers will be offered on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Titus Catholic Church.
Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
The St. Titus Holy Name Society will recite a Rosary on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
The Beaver County Special Unit will meet on Thursday at 11:15 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery to conduct full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beaver County Humane Society, 3394 Brodhead Road, Aliquippa, PA 15001.
