Albert Edwin Key

Olney - Albert Edwin Key, age 93, died Friday, January 5, 2018, at Brookdale in Graham, TX. Funeral Services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Olney Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Carpenter and Scotte Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Edwin was born March 17, 1924, in Megargel to the late George Andrew Key and Margaret Estelle Campbell Key. As a toddler, Edwin watched his mother in the kitchen and learned, to the delight of friends and family, how to bake award-winning pies and rolls. After graduating Megargel HS in 1941, Edwin's pursuit of a Bachelor of Music degree at Southern Methodist University was interrupted in 1943, by service in the Army. The 552nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion landed on Day 3 of the Normandy Invasion and proceeded to march across Europe. Following World War II, Edwin continued his music degree graduating from SMU in 1948. He was an active wheat farmer and cattle rancher all his adult life. Edwin and Frances James Key were married on May 5, 1950, in Graham. They made their home in Olney where Edwin and Frances began sharing their passion for music by influencing the lives of thousands of students, from near and far, through piano and organ instruction in Key Studio. He was a member of Wichita Falls Music Teachers Association for 65 years and was awarded Pre-Collegiate Teacher of the Year by the state organization, Texas Music Teachers Association. Edwin and Frances also were honored to be chosen as Music Teachers National Association Foundation Fellows representing Texas. Edwin was a member of the Olney Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as organist for 69 years and as an elder and Christian education teacher. The Olney Chamber of Commerce bestowed the Pioneer of the Year Award to Edwin and Frances for their years of service to the community.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Frances Key of Graham; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Gary Glover of Olney; granddaughters, Sarah Glover Kidd and husband, Joshua Kidd of Graham, and Kate Glover Evetts and husband, Cole Evetts of Austin; great-grandsons Jackson and Carson Kidd; brother and sister-in-law, Clifton and JoAn Key of Olney; and sister-in-law, Sarah Key of Comanche.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Dwight Key and Floyd Key.
