Together Again

Age 83, a life-long resident of Strasburg, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 30, 2021, in Mercy Medical Center, Canton. Born October 7, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Ervin Sr. and Lillian Renner Weber. Joyce graduated from Strasburg-Franklin High School, and was later employed in the school office. She also worked for the 4-D Ranch and the Strasburg Bakery. Joyce married her high school sweetheart, Charles W. "Bill" Whitman, on November 23, 1955; the couple had six children and shared very nearly 57 years of marriage prior to Bill's passing on November 6, 2012. Joyce was a devoted wife, mother grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, listening to music, cooking and baking, and working with ceramics. Joyce also enjoyed collecting rocking horses, carousel horse figurines and teddy bears. She was a former member of Strasburg's First Lutheran Church, and attended NewPointe Community Church, Dover.

Joyce will be dearly missed by her children, Doug (Tammy) Whitman, Teresa (Jeff) Weber and Eric Whitman, all of Strasburg, William "Kip" Whitman of Bolivar, and Maurica (Edwin) Sokol of Wooster; her grandchildren, Leandra (Steven) Lantzer, Kayleigh (Zak) Stull, Brianne Whitman, Rachelle (Nathan) Kanouff, Ashleigh (Shon) Stantz, Billy (Audriana) and Jimmy Whitman; her 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Bonnie Weber of Strasburg; and her nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her beloved husband, Bill, Joyce was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Marie Whitman; and by her seven siblings.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Tuesday, August 3, 6 - 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 4, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be with Bill in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia. Following the committal, there will be a lunch in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
