Walter McAfee Obituary

Walter Ralph McAfee, Jr.
age 55, of Jewett died Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Ohio American's Redbird West Operation's near Brilliant from injuries sustained in a mining accident. Born Feb. 28, 1957 in Dennison he was a son of the late Walter Ralph "Pork" McAfee, Sr and Florence Alice "Floss" Moore McAfee. He graduated from Jewett-Scio High School in 1975 and continued his education in California where he was studying to become an engineer. He had been working for Ohio American Energy for the past six years and prior to that he had been a surveyor for Bair and Assoc. in New Philadelphia, Jack Hamilton and Assoc. in Flushing and the former R&F Coal Co. in Cadiz. Ralph was a member of the Harrison Masonic Lodge in Cadiz and enjoyed golfing with his friends and dancing. Earlier in his life he enjoyed playing basketball and softball and was in the bowling league at Valie Lanes in Jewett.
Surviving are his sons, James Harry McAfee of Reynoldsburg and Jerry (Bobbi) McAfee of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Madyson and Cooper McAfee; brother, Donald "Butch" (Carol) McAfee of Jewett; sisters, Judy McAfee Rice of Punta Gorda, Fla., Vicki McAfee of Claremont, N.C., Ruth McAfee of Dennison, Kathy McAfee of Cadiz, Sue (Terry) Smith of Jewett and Laurie McAfee of Rapid City, S.D.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held Thursday at Noon in Bethel United Methodist Church near Jewett with Pastor Roger Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Jewett. Friends may call Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, Scio where a Masonic Service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks, 1060 State Rd., 2nd Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540 or at www.autismspeaks.org.
