Eugene Redman Obituary

Eugene D. Redman, 90, of Strafford, MO and formerly of Watseka, IL passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at his residence.
Gene was born June 17, 1926 in Stockland, IL, the son of Guy E. and Hazel Martin Redman.  He married Viola E. Kaufmann in Watseka on September 1, 1951 and she preceded him in death on January 12, 2016.  He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one son, Michael Redman.
He is survived by one son, Stephen Redman and friend, Julie Watson of Camdenton, MO; one brother, Merrill (Mary) Redman of Watseka; six grandchildren, Jenifer, Geno, Tyler, Cassandra, Tana, and Mike Redman Jr.; and six great grandchildren, Dakota, McKenzie, Tyler, Victoria, and Dalton Redman and Mikaela James.
Mr. Redman served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II.  Gene was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Watseka, Watseka Elks, Watseka Masonic Lodge, and Watseka American Legion.  He belonged to the Shriners International in Springfield, MO.  He was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame after a career at Western Illinois University.  Gene was a partner in many different business ventures throughout his life, including nursing homes and motels.
Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.  A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Robert Sabo officiating.  Burial will take place at GAR Cemetery in Watseka with military graveside rites by Watseka American Legion Post #23 and Iroquois County VFW Post #7450.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Watseka or donor's choice.
