David Bouck Obituary

David Earl Bouck 1936 - 2017
SCHUYLER - David "Biggs" Bouck passed away peacefully on March 3, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Dave was born at home in Ilion on March 20, 1936, to Lewis and Harriette (Snyder) Bouck. He was a 1954 graduate of Ilion High School, where he was a standout athlete in football, basketball and track. A graduate of Oswego State Teachers College in 1958, Dave also excelled in basketball and track while in college. Dave continued his education at both Cortland and Oneonta, receiving his masters in teaching. After a one year stint at Oneida High School, Dave spent the next 31 years of his life teaching industrial arts at Ilion High School, retiring in 1990. He coached both football and track at Ilion and was especially proud of coaching state champion shot putter Tom Deyle. In 1959, he met the love of his life at Ilion High School, Irene Pogonowski, a business teacher. They were married on October 7, 1961, in Newport. They spent the next 55 years together in Ilion, at their horse farm on Shells Bush Road in Herkimer, in retirement in Spring Hill, Florida, and settled in Schuyler in 2002.
Surviving are his wife, Irene; children, Kim (Michael), Kelly and Eric (Pam); and grandchildren, Keith (fiancee Vanessa), Max, Jack and Richard. He is also survived by his baby brother, Donnie (Betty); special nieces and nephews, Erin, Michael, Matt, Chris, Allison, Frank, Kathy, Jeff and Ron; and his extraordinary caregiver, niece Jana. Other "special" family members include Smokey and Paula Kucerak, lifelong friends Bob Deming and Bob Haas, and his constant companion, his German Shepard, Dutchess. Besides his parents, Dave was predeceased by his brothers, Paul (Vivian), Lewis (Loretta), Mike (Mary) and Frank (Gen).
Mr. Bouck's funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. A spring interment will be held in St. John's Cemetery in Newport, NY. Calling hours for family and friends are Monday (today) from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

In my high school years Mr Buick was a great and positive influence to me. His influences gave me the drive to go on to college and study architecture. He had similar influences on many others, a great man that will be missed. My condolences go out to his family.

Bigsie... I was very fortunate to have had him as a teacher and a boss during school and college, taught me and trusted me to work on his behalf building homes. We worked hard and loved every minute of it, I would give anything for another day of working construction with Bigsie, or even haying his field. Kim, Rick, Kelly, Irene, always there when for the haying and the picnic afterwards, and I remember the OV splits never tasted better! He sent me for the donuts in the morning, 16 or 17 and he let me drive his Ford, always had the coolest trucks with dual exhaust, I remember how proud I was to drive those trucks. What memories I have of working with Bigs, will cherish and share them forever!

Bigsy, as we students and then adults affectionately called Dave, was a general contractor. I was fortunate to be his go to Drywall contractor whenever He needed that kind of work done. Bigsy was no pushover and everyone knew it. I for one respected him because of it and am proud to be able to call Mr. Bouck my friend and Mentor. ONE THING, Tim ,when Bigsy sends you for coffee and doughnuts, don't come back with POP TARTS , even if they are frosted ! Rest in Peace Bigs.

Coach Bouck and I worked hard together in 1962 -1963 and it culminated in a State Championship in the discus throw at the state meet on Long Island. I then became a teacher and coach myself. Thank you Coach for all did for me. You will be missed but not forgotten. My sympathies to your family.

Mr Bouck was one of the smartest and kindest teachers I had the privilege of having at IHS. He was not just big in stature but in heart and understanding of teens. He made you want to do better, be better. RIP to one of the best.
